São Roque de Minas
São Roque de Minas is a municipality located in the southwest of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Founded in 1938, it has a rich history linked to gold exploration in the 18th century and the coffee boom in the 19th century. Its main tourist attraction is the Serra da Canastra National Park, home to the source of the São Francisco River and breathtaking landscapes, such as the famous Casca D'Anta waterfall. Additionally, the municipality is known for its traditional cuisine, especially the Canastra cheese, one of the most famous in Brazil.
São José do Barreiro - MG
São José do Barreiro is a district of São Roque de Minas, Minas Gerais. In the past, the region was inhabited by the Caiapó indigenous people and was later discovered by explorers, or bandeirantes, in search of gold and diamonds. During the colonial era, São José do Barreiro developed as an important coffee-producing center and participated in Brazil's fight for independence. Today, the town has around 2,000 residents and is known for its beautiful natural landscapes, such as the Serra da Canastra and its waterfalls, which attract tourists.
Cachoeira Casca D'Anta
Casca D'Anta Waterfall is one of the most famous and beautiful waterfalls in Brazil, located in the Serra da Canastra National Park in Minas Gerais. The main waterfall has a drop of approximately 186 meters and is formed by the São Francisco River, which originates in the Serra da Canastra.
To reach the waterfall, visitors must take a trail of about 7 km (round trip) leading to the Casca D'Anta viewpoint. Along the way, it's possible to observe the region's flora and fauna, as well as smaller waterfalls along the path.
The site includes visitor support facilities, with restrooms, parking, and a picnic area. It's important to note that access to the waterfall may be closed during periods of heavy rain, as the access road can become impassable.
Nascente História do Rio São Francisco
The São Francisco River is one of the most important rivers in Brazil, stretching over 2,800 km and crossing five Brazilian states. Although there are various sources that could be considered the river's beginning, one of the most well-known springs is located in the Serra da Canastra National Park in Minas Gerais. The river flows northward, passing through the Cerrado region and entering the Caatinga, where it serves as a vital water resource for the local population. Regardless of the chosen source, the São Francisco is a symbol of national identity and an essential resource for the economy and for the lives of the communities along its banks.
Poço das Orquídeas
The Poço das Orquídeas is an excellent choice for those seeking a peaceful, beautiful, and pleasant spot to cool off and enjoy nature. With a gravel beach surrounded by a small forest, it features a small waterfall and a shallow pool, ideal for a refreshing swim.
To reach Poço das Orquídeas, you must take a moderately challenging 5 km trail, which requires significant physical effort, as the path is mostly uphill on the way there.
Cachoeira do Vento
Also known as Cachoeira dos Escravos, it features a cave behind the falls that can only be accessed with a guide, as well as an impressive cascade. The pools formed aren’t very large but are ideally deep for a swim.
Access is via an approximately 2 km trail of intermediate difficulty.
